The Grabkapelle auf dem Württemberg is a neoclassical mausoleum built by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg as a monument to eternal love. Perched atop Württemberg Hill in Stuttgart-Rotenberg, the chapel was constructed between 1820 and 1824 in memory of Queen Katharina, who died unexpectedly at age 30. Designed by court architect Giovanni Salucci, the building replaced the ruins of the ancestral Wirtemberg Castle and now stands as one of Stuttgart’s most romantic landmarks. Its harmonious rotunda, Corinthian columns, and serene interior reflect the ideals of the Romantic era. The chapel also houses the tombs of Wilhelm I and their daughter Marie Friederike Charlotte. Surrounded by vineyards and offering panoramic views of the Neckar Valley, the site is popular for weddings, cultural events, and quiet reflection. Locals affectionately call it the “Swabian Taj Mahal,” and it remains a symbol of devotion, architectural beauty, and regional heritage.

The Grabkapelle auf dem Württemberg, also known as the Württemberg Mausoleum, is located on the Württemberg hill in the Rotenberg borough of Untertürkheim, Stuttgart. This striking mausoleum was designed by Giovanni Salucci and built between 1820 and 1824 by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg in memory of his beloved wife Katharina Pavlovna of Russia. The chapel features classicist architecture inspired by the Roman Pantheon and is surrounded by picturesque vineyards, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Stuttgart, the Neckar valley, and the surrounding wine country. The site is a peaceful romantic retreat, often described as "Stuttgart’s mini Tuscany," with nearby wine trails and local wine taverns enhancing the visitor experience.
