Max-Eyth-See is Stuttgart’s largest artificial lake and a beloved recreational oasis nestled between the districts of Mühlhausen and Hofen. Created in 1935 by reclaiming a former gravel quarry, the lake spans approximately 17 hectares and sits directly along the Neckar River. Named after Max Eyth, a Swabian engineer and writer, the site was originally an extension of the Neckar before being transformed into a nature reserve and leisure destination. Today, Max-Eyth-See offers a tranquil escape with pedal boating, fishing, birdwatching, and scenic walking paths. Its surrounding meadows and vineyards create a picturesque setting for picnics, cycling, and inline skating. The lake also hosts sailing and kayaking clubs, and features a bird protection island that underscores its ecological value. With restaurants, beer gardens, and panoramic views, Max-Eyth-See blends urban proximity with natural serenity, making it a year-round favorite for families, athletes, and nature lovers.

Max-Eyth-See is located in Stuttgart-Hofen on the northern outskirts of the city along the River Neckar, positioned between the Mühlhausen and Hofen districts. Originally created by reclaiming a former gravel quarry in the 1930s, this 17.3-hectare lake is now a popular nature reserve and local recreation area. The lake and its surrounding green spaces offer opportunities for walking, cycling, inline skating, boating, and bird watching, with a network of paths encircling the 600-meter-long body of water. Nearby amenities include two lakeside restaurants, “Haus am See” and “Treffpunkt am See,” as well as a bird sanctuary where species like grebes, cormorants, and herons can be spotted. The area is easily accessible by car and public transport, with parking and the subway line U14 serving the site. It is a charming spot for sunbathing, picnicking, and water sports during warmer months, surrounded by scenic vineyards and hiking trails along the Neckar.​
