Originally a Gothic water fortress guarding ancient trade routes, it features a unique circular layout with an internal courtyard and remnants of a moat once crossed by a collapsible bridge. Over centuries, the structure evolved through Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicist transformations, culminating in its current chateau-like appearance. Today, the fortress serves as a vibrant cultural centre, hosting art exhibitions, classical concerts, and community events. Restored in the 1980s, its vaulted halls, arcaded galleries, and landscaped park—adorned with seasonal sculptures—offer a serene blend of history and creativity. With an on-site café and gallery, Chodov Fortress invites visitors to experience Prague’s layered past in a setting that bridges medieval fortification with modern cultural life.

Chodov Fortress (Chodovská tvrz) is located at Ledvinova 9/86, in the Chodov district of southern Prague, within Prague 11. This unique round building, dating back to the late 1200s, is the most significant historical monument in Jižní Město. Originally a Gothic fortress and once owned by the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, it was later transformed into a Baroque residence. Today, Chodov Fortress serves as a vibrant cultural center, featuring an art gallery, a small recital room, and a variety of concerts, exhibitions, and community events. The fortress is set amidst a modern residential area, easily accessible by the Chodov metro station (Line C), and is just a short walk from the expansive Westfield Chodov Shopping Center, one of the largest malls in Prague, offering over 210 stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. Also nearby is the striking National Archives building, as well as local parks and green spaces, making Chodov Fortress a cultural and historical oasis within a bustling urban environment.
