The Municipal Library of Prague, located on Mariánské náměstí in the heart of the Old Town, is both an architectural and cultural landmark. Built between 1925 and 1928, the library was the first purpose-built library building in Czechoslovakia and remains one of the most modern of its era, featuring Art Deco interiors, travertine façades, and striking geometric ceiling decorations by František Kysela. One of the main attractions is the "Idiom" installation, also known as the Column of Knowledge-a mesmerizing tower made of 8,000 books by artist Matěj Krén. This sculpture, with its mirrored interior, creates the illusion of an endless tunnel of books and has become a viral sensation, drawing crowds eager to snap photos. The library’s entrance hall itself is worth a look for its stained glass and elegant design.
