The Royal Garden at Prague Castle is a tranquil oasis steeped in history and elegance. Founded in 1534 by Emperor Ferdinand I on the site of medieval vineyards, it was inspired by Italian Renaissance design and later enriched with Baroque and English landscape elements. Originally a private retreat for royalty, the garden features architectural gems like the Royal Summer Palace, the Ball Game Hall, and the Singing Fountain. Exotic plants and rare botanical specimens once flourished here, reflecting the Habsburgs’ fascination with global flora. Today, visitors stroll past manicured lawns, ornamental flowerbeds, and historic sculptures, enjoying peaceful views and seasonal blooms. The garden is open from spring to autumn and accessible via several entrances near Prague Castle. The Royal Garden at Prague Castle is a historic Italian Renaissance garden located on the northern side of the Prague Castle complex in the Hradčany district, easily accessed via the Královský letohrádek tram stop or by walking from the main castle courtyards. Founded in 1534 by Emperor Ferdinand I on the site of medieval vineyards, the garden features manicured lawns, rare botanical specimens, and a blend of Renaissance, Baroque, and English-style landscaping. Notable landmarks within the garden include the elegant Queen Anne’s Summer Palace (Belvedere), the Singing Fountain, and the Royal Ball Game Hall, all originally built for the entertainment of the royal court. The garden provides tranquil walking paths, benches, and picturesque views of Prague and St. Vitus Cathedral. Nearby, visitors can explore the rest of the Prague Castle complex, including St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, and the South Gardens, while a footbridge connects the area to Letná Park for further scenic strolls. The Royal Garden is open seasonally and admission is free.
