Divoká Šárka Nature Reserve, located on Prague’s northwestern edge, offers a dramatic escape into rugged wilderness just minutes from the city center. Named after the legendary warrior Šárka, who leapt to her death from its cliffs, the reserve blends myth with natural beauty. Steep gorges, rocky outcrops, and forested trails create a striking landscape ideal for hiking, cycling, and birdwatching. The Šárecký Stream winds through the valley, leading to natural swimming pools and the Džbán reservoir, popular for summer dips and winter ice skating. Ancient Slavic fortifications on Džbán Hill hint at the area’s early settlement, predating Prague Castle. Despite its proximity to the airport, the reserve remains peaceful, with only birdsong breaking the silence. Easily reached by tram or metro, Divoká Šárka is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and history lovers alike—a place where Prague’s urban rhythm gives way to untamed nature and timeless legend.

Divoká Šárka Nature Reserve is located on the northwestern outskirts of Prague, in the Prague 6 district, near the Liboc neighborhood and close to the airport. Easily accessible by tram or bus, the reserve offers a dramatic landscape of rocky cliffs, deep gorges, woodlands, and meadows, making it one of the city’s largest and most scenic green spaces. The area is named after the legendary female warrior Šárka, and visitors can explore the Džbán gorge, the Divčí skok rock formation, and a network of marked hiking and cycling trails. Within the park, you'll find two popular outdoor swimming pools, a children’s wading pool, and the Džbán reservoir, which doubles as an ice skating rink in winter. The reserve is also home to a variety of wildlife, including over 60 species of birds, and features a cherry orchard, playgrounds, and several local pubs and restaurants for refreshments. Nearby, you can visit the residential neighborhoods of Liboc and Vokovice or continue exploring other parks and historical sites in Prague 6.
