Wallenstein Garden, nestled in Prague’s Lesser Town beneath the castle, is a Baroque masterpiece offering elegance, history, and tranquility. Commissioned in the 1620s by Albrecht von Wallenstein to rival Prague Castle, the garden forms part of the Wallenstein Palace complex, now home to the Czech Senate. Visitors enter a world of manicured lawns, mythological statues, and ornamental fountains, with white peacocks roaming freely among the hedges. The Sala Terrena, a grand open-air hall adorned with frescoes, hosts summer concerts and cultural events. A striking artificial grotto wall adds a touch of whimsy, while the central pond reflects the garden’s serene beauty. Designed by Italian architects, the space blends architectural grandeur with natural charm. Open from April to October and free to enter, Wallenstein Garden is a hidden gem ideal for quiet reflection, artistic inspiration, or a scenic pause on the way to Prague Castle. Wallenstein Garden is a serene Baroque retreat located in Prague’s Malá Strana district, just below Prague Castle and immediately behind the Malostranská metro station. Concealed behind high walls, the garden forms part of the Wallenstein Palace complex, now home to the Czech Senate, and is accessible from Valdštejnské náměstí or Letenská street. Built in the early 17th century, the garden features symmetrical paths, ornate fountains, mythological statues, a large fish pond, and a dramatic dripstone Grotto wall with hidden creatures. Free-roaming peacocks and an owl aviary add to its unique charm. The adjacent Wallenstein Palace occasionally hosts open-air concerts and art exhibitions, while the Wallenstein Riding School, part of the National Gallery, offers contemporary art displays. The garden’s central location places it within easy walking distance of Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and the picturesque streets of Malá Strana, making it a peaceful yet culturally rich stop amid Prague’s historic heart.
