St. Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral in Łódź is one of the city’s most distinctive sacred landmarks, built between 1880 and 1884 as a gift from leading industrialists to the small but growing Orthodox community. Designed by Hilary Majewski, the temple stands near Łódź Fabryczna station, its octagonal plan and vivid Russian‑Byzantine style immediately recognisable. The façade glows with colourful stuccoes, polychromes and five golden onion domes, while the richly ornamented tower and portals highlight the grandeur associated with 19th‑century Orthodox architecture. Inside, the cathedral preserves an impressive oak iconostasis funded by Izrael Poznański, along with stained‑glass windows and decorative paintings that reflect both Russian and Byzantine artistic traditions. Today it serves as the cathedral of the Łódź‑Poznań diocese, remaining an active place of worship and a striking reminder of the city’s multicultural past.

Saint Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral is located at ul. Kilińskiego 56 in central Łódź, Poland, in the Śródmieście district, close to the city center and the area around Łódź Fabryczna station. Nearby, you can find Piotrkowska Street, one of Łódź’s main historic and shopping streets, as well as the EC1 science and technology complex and the northern end of the city center route leading toward Manufaktura. It is also close to tram and bus connections, including the “Hotel Centrum” and “Kilińskiego” stops, making it easy to reach from other parts of the city.
