The Alfred Biedermann Palace in Łódź is an elegant early 20th‑century residence built between 1910 and 1912 for industrialist Alfred Biedermann. Set within a landscaped park at Franciszkańska Street, the palace stands out for its compact modernist form, steep mansard roof and refined classical proportions. Originally accompanied by a coach house and farm buildings, it served as a family home decorated with an impressive private art collection that included paintings, sculptures and textiles. Though much of the collection was dispersed during and after the Second World War, the building itself survived and was entered into the register of monuments in 1980. A major restoration from 1999 to 2003 revived its façade, interiors and decorative glasswork. Since 2008 the palace has belonged to the University of Łódź, housing the Department of Art History, the Institute of Contemporary Culture and representative ceremonial rooms. Today it remains a serene architectural landmark, blending academic life with the legacy of one of Łódź’s prominent industrial families.
