The Archcathedral Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Łódź is the city’s most imposing sacred landmark and one of the tallest churches in Poland, its soaring neo‑Gothic tower rising above the skyline. Built between 1901 and 1912 to serve the rapidly growing industrial population, the basilica was designed by Józef Pius Dziekoński, who gave it a monumental brick façade, slender pinnacles and richly ornamented portals inspired by medieval cathedral architecture. Inside, the spacious nave is illuminated by stained‑glass windows depicting saints and biblical scenes, while carved altars, ribbed vaults and a grand organ create an atmosphere of solemn grandeur. The cathedral has been a centre of religious and civic life for over a century, hosting major ceremonies and becoming a symbol of the city’s identity. Elevated to the rank of archcathedral in 1992, it remains a place of worship, reflection and architectural admiration, embodying the spiritual heritage of Łódź.
