About

The EC1 Science and Technology Centre in Łódź is a major attraction within the revitalised EC1 complex, where the city’s first power plant once operated. Opened in 2018, it transforms historic industrial interiors into an immersive educational space filled with interactive exhibits and large‑scale installations. Visitors can explore three thematic paths that reveal how energy is produced, how scientific knowledge has shaped civilisation, and how the universe functions from the microscopic to the cosmic scale. The centre also features a striking spherical cinema that complements the exhibitions with visually rich scientific films. By blending preserved machinery with modern technology, EC1 offers an engaging environment for learning through experimentation and discovery. It stands today as one of Poland’s most innovative science centres, inviting guests of all ages to experience science in a hands‑on, inspiring way.

Centrum Nauki i Techniki EC1 is located at Targowa 1/3 in central Łódź, Poland, within the revitalized EC1 Łódź – City of Culture complex adjacent to Łódź Fabryczna train station. Housed in a historic 1907 power station, this interactive science center spans 18,000 m² with exhibits on energy conversion, microworld-macroworld phenomena, and civilization development, featuring hands-on displays, labs, a 3D spherical cinema, and a cooling tower viewing platform. Nearby within the EC1 campus lie the Planetarium EC1 for immersive shows, National Centre for Film Culture with cinema halls, Ulica Żywiołów science playground for kids, and the Centre for Comics and Interactive Narrative. A short walk connects to Piotrkowska Street's vibrant pedestrian promenade with cafés and street art, Moniuszko Park, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and tram access to Manufaktura shopping complex plus MS² Art Museum.
