The Grand Theatre in Łódź is one of Poland’s leading opera houses and a defining landmark of Plac Dąbrowskiego. Completed in the 1960s in the monumental style of socialist realism, it was designed by Józef and Witold Korski together with Roman Szymborski, whose imposing façade, long colonnade and sculptural frieze have become iconic elements of the cityscape. Inside, the theatre offers a vast, technically advanced stage and an auditorium seating over a thousand spectators, enabling large‑scale productions of opera, operetta and ballet. Over the decades it has hosted renowned international artists and premiered works by major composers, strengthening its reputation as a cultural powerhouse. Beyond its regular repertoire, the theatre serves as a venue for festivals, concerts and special events, contributing to the artistic life of Łódź. Combining architectural grandeur with a rich performance tradition, it remains a central institution in the city’s cultural identity.

This iconic socialist realism opera house, opened in 1967, hosts operas, ballets, and concerts in its grand 1,074-seat auditorium. Nearby, the modern Łódź Fabryczna train station offers sleek architecture and easy city access, while the EC1 Science and Technology Centre provides interactive exhibits on power and innovation just across the way.
