The Sternfeld Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory in Łódź is an intimate educational centre dedicated to astronomy, founded in 1984 and named after Ary Sternfeld, the Polish‑Jewish pioneer of astronautics. Hidden behind the historic school complex on Pomorska Street, the facility offers a quiet retreat where visitors can explore the universe through a 6‑metre dome accommodating 32 viewers. Its programmes focus on teaching children and young people, using telescopes, computers and modern didactic tools to introduce the fundamentals of celestial mechanics, planetary motion and space exploration. The observatory also conducts research, including observations of lunar and planetary occultations, meteor activity and solar phenomena. Despite its modest scale, the planetarium has long played an important role in Łódź’s scientific landscape, nurturing curiosity and providing accessible astronomy education. Today it remains a cherished local institution, connecting generations of students with the wonders of the night sky.
