Pasaż Róży

About

Pasaż Róży is one of Łódź’s most enchanting urban artworks, a narrow courtyard transformed into a shimmering world of light and reflection. Created in 2014 by artist Joanna Rajkowska, the installation covers the façades of the tenement at Piotrkowska 3 with thousands of hand‑cut mirror fragments arranged in patterns resembling rose petals. The project was inspired by the artist’s daughter, Róża, whose early struggle with eye cancer gave the work its emotional core and its symbolic focus on sight, fragility and renewal. As sunlight shifts throughout the day, the mirrored surfaces scatter reflections across the passage, turning the once‑neglected courtyard into a luminous, ever‑changing environment. At night, the space glows softly with city lights, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that draws photographers, visitors and locals alike. Today Pasaż Róży stands as a celebrated example of contemporary public art and a poetic highlight of Łódź’s revitalised city centre.

Pasaż Róży is located at Piotrkowska 3 in central Łódź, Poland, right off the main Piotrkowska Street near Plac Wolności (Freedom Square), accessible via a narrow passageway marked by pink roses. This artistic installation by Joanna Rajkowska features a courtyard entirely covered in shimmering mirror fragments, creating a dazzling light show especially in sunlight.
