The Zinnfigurenmuseum im Torhaus Dölitz is one of Europe’s largest museums dedicated to the art of the tin figure, housed in a baroque gatehouse that once stood at the heart of the Battle of the Nations in 1813. Across three floors, more than 100,000 hand-painted figures and elaborate dioramas bring history to life, from ancient Babylon and medieval Europe to the Napoleonic Wars. The highlight is a 25 m² grand diorama depicting the Völkerschlacht near Leipzig, where thousands of miniature soldiers recreate the drama of the battlefield. Visitors also gain insight into the craft itself, with displays showing the process of designing, engraving, casting, and painting these intricate figures. Beyond military history, the museum explores Leipzig’s changing cityscape and the cultural legacy of Dölitz, once frequented by Goethe. Regular special exhibitions, events, and a well-stocked shop complement the permanent collection, making the Torhaus Dölitz both a place of remembrance and a celebration of miniature artistry.

The Zinnfigurenmuseum im Torhaus Dölitz is located at Helenenstraße 24 in the Dölitz-Dösen district, in the southern part of Leipzig. Housed in a more than 300-year-old baroque gatehouse, the museum sits within a green parkland setting near the Weiße Elster river and is close to the Leipzig Park Circuit in Lößnig-Dölitz-Dösen, ideal for walking or cycling. Lake Cospuden and the Neuseenland cycle routes are also easily reached from this location, while the nearby historical sites and access to trams and buses provide convenient connections across the city. The landmark is surrounded by tranquil residential areas and the historic Wassermühle Dölitz, offering both a glimpse of Leipzig’s past and easy access to recreational and cultural attractions.
