The Bach Museum Leipzig, housed in the historic Bosehaus directly opposite St. Thomas Church, offers an immersive encounter with the life and music of Johann Sebastian Bach. As cantor of St. Thomas for 27 years, Bach composed many of his greatest works in Leipzig, including the St. Matthew Passion and the Mass in B minor. The museum’s permanent exhibition combines precious original manuscripts, instruments, and household objects with interactive installations that bring the Baroque era to life. Visitors can explore the composer’s world through a walk-in city map with 3D audio, a virtual orchestra, and listening stations that highlight the voices of Bach’s family. Highlights include an organ console Bach himself played, a treasure room with rare documents, and the atmospheric Summer Hall, which still hosts concerts. By blending scholarship, authenticity, and modern interpretation, the Bach Museum not only preserves the legacy of one of history’s greatest composers but also invites audiences to experience his music in new and engaging ways.

The Bach Museum Leipzig is located at Thomaskirchhof 15/16, 04109 Leipzig, right opposite St. Thomas Church where Johann Sebastian Bach spent much of his career as cantor. The museum is housed in the historic Bose House and offers an interactive exhibition on Bach's life and works, featuring original manuscripts and musical instruments. Nearby, visitors can explore St. Thomas Church, the historic market square (Markt), Augustusplatz with its theatres and concert halls, and several cafés and shops. The museum is easily accessible via tram line 9 and bus line 89 at the Thomaskirche stop, placing it in the cultural heart of Leipzig with excellent public transport connections.
