Rising 142.5 meters above Augustusplatz, the skyscraper was designed by architect Hermann Henselmann in the late 1960s and completed in 1972. Its distinctive shape, often compared to an open book or a “wisdom tooth,” makes it instantly recognizable on the Leipzig skyline. Today, the tower houses offices, but its greatest attraction for visitors is the observation platform on the 31st floor. From here, guests enjoy a sweeping 360-degree panorama of the city, stretching across Leipzig’s historic center, the green belt of parks, and, on clear days, even into the surrounding Saxon countryside. The deck is open daily and has become a must-see for tourists and locals alike, offering one of the best vantage points to appreciate the city’s blend of historic architecture and modern development. City-Hochhaus Leipzig, also known as Panorama Tower, stands at Augustusplatz 9 in the heart of central Leipzig. This iconic 36-story skyscraper is the city’s tallest building and is instantly recognizable on the skyline. Its prime location on Augustusplatz places it within immediate reach of Leipzig University, the Gewandhaus concert hall, and the Leipzig Opera House. The building features a rooftop viewing platform offering spectacular panoramic views over the city, as well as the renowned “Plate of Art” Panorama Restaurant. Augustusplatz itself is a major public square, well connected by numerous tram and bus lines, and within walking distance of the main railway station, Mendebrunnen fountain, and the historic Nikolaikirche.
