The HGB Galerie is the exhibition space of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig, one of Germany’s oldest and most influential art academies. Since its founding in 1979, the gallery has served as a vital platform for dialogue between the academy and the wider public, positioning itself as a bridge between teaching, research, and contemporary artistic practice. Located at the heart of the school on Wächterstraße, it offers students, faculty, and invited artists, curators, and scholars the opportunity to experiment with new forms of presentation and discourse. Over the decades, the gallery has hosted exhibitions ranging from modernist masters such as Picasso and Beckmann to avant-garde figures like Joseph Beuys and Man Ray, while also highlighting photography as a central medium.
