Johannapark
Created between 1858 and 1863 by banker Wilhelm Theodor Seyfferth in memory of his daughter Johanna, the park was designed in the English landscape style by the renowned garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné. Covering around 11 hectares, it lies just west of the city center and today forms part of a continuous parkland together with Clara-Zetkin-Park and the Palmengarten. Johannapark is characterized by sweeping lawns, winding paths, and a central pond with an island, bridges, and a fountain, offering picturesque views of the Lutherkirche and Leipzig’s skyline. Its design reflects 19th-century ideals of harmony between nature and urban life, while also serving as a lasting monument to personal loss and civic generosity. Over the decades, the park has remained a favorite retreat for walkers, families, and students from the nearby university quarter.
