The Grieg-Begegnungsstätte Leipzig is a biographical museum and cultural venue dedicated to the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, who studied at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1858 to 1862. Opened in 2005, it is located on the first floor of a historic 19th-century building in Talstraße, once home to the renowned music publisher Edition Peters. Here, Grieg formed close ties with publisher Max Abraham, who became his mentor and lifelong supporter. The permanent exhibition presents documents, photographs, and memorabilia that illuminate Grieg’s formative Leipzig years and his later international career. A highlight is the intimate music salon, where concerts, lectures, and readings continue the tradition of artistic exchange. The house is also part of the UNESCO-recognized “Leipziger Notenspur,” linking sites of the city’s rich musical heritage. With its blend of history, performance, and dialogue, the Grieg-Begegnungsstätte offers a unique space where visitors can explore the life and legacy of one of Scandinavia’s most beloved composers in the city that shaped his early path.

Peters publishing house, where the composer Edvard Grieg stayed and performed during his visits to Leipzig.
