Theater der Jungen Welt
The Theater der Jungen Welt (TDJW) in Leipzig is Germany’s oldest professional theatre for young audiences and one of the most renowned in the German-speaking world. Founded in 1946, it has become a cultural landmark dedicated to children, teenagers, young adults, and families, offering a cross-disciplinary program that spans drama, music, dance, and experimental formats. With around 700 performances each season, the TDJW presents works for all ages—from toddlers to adults—often tackling socially relevant and thought-provoking themes. Based in the Theaterhaus am Lindenauer Markt, it houses three permanent stages and also takes productions on the road, performing in schools, kindergartens, and even its own theatre bus. The theatre is not only a stage but also a hub for cultural education, with its “Junge Wildnis” department fostering participatory projects and creative learning experiences. International collaborations and festival appearances have earned the TDJW multiple awards, including the prestigious Theaterpreis des Bundes.
