Its most prominent landmark is the Renaissance-style Old Town Hall, built in 1556, which today houses the Museum of City History and recalls Leipzig’s role as a hub of trade and culture. The square itself is a listed heritage site, with its distinctive paving and surrounding façades reflecting layers of architectural history.
