The Jan Bouman House in Potsdam is a museum dedicated to the history and architecture of the Dutch Quarter, one of the city’s most distinctive heritage sites. Located at Mittelstraße 8, the museum is named after Jan Bouman, the Dutch architect who designed the quarter in the 18th century under Frederick William I. The house itself is a restored gabled building from 1735 and showcases the everyday life of Dutch craftsmen who settled in Potsdam. Inside, visitors encounter original furnishings, household items, and architectural details that reflect the Biedermeier period and Dutch building traditions. The permanent exhibition explores the cultural exchange between Prussia and the Netherlands, the urban planning of the quarter, and the preservation of its listed buildings. Managed by the Förderverein zur Pflege niederländischer Kultur, the museum also hosts special exhibitions and events that celebrate Dutch heritage. The Jan Bouman House is located at Mittelstraße 8 in the heart of Potsdam’s Dutch Quarter, a charming district built between 1732 and 1742 at the request of King Frederick William I. The museum is named after Jan Bouman, the Dutch architect who designed the quarter, and is housed in one of the original gabled brick houses from 1735. Inside, visitors can explore exhibitions about the history, architecture, and restoration of the Dutch Quarter, with rooms furnished in authentic 18th-century style. The museum captures the everyday life and craftsmanship of the area’s first Dutch colonists. Nearby, the Dutch Quarter’s red-brick façades host cafés, artisan shops, and galleries.
