Filmmuseum Potsdam is Germany’s oldest film museum, located in the baroque Marstall building near the city’s historic center. It offers a vivid exploration of 100 years of film history in Babelsberg, the world’s oldest large-scale film studio. Founded in 1981 and now part of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, the museum presents the permanent exhibition Dream Factory, which guides visitors through the entire filmmaking process—from script to premiere. Seven themed rooms showcase original props, costumes, set designs, and archival footage, while interactive stations let guests try casting, editing, and voice acting. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, daily screenings, and silent film events accompanied by a historic Welte cinema organ. Housed in a building originally constructed in 1685 as an orangery and later converted into royal stables, the museum blends cinematic innovation with architectural heritage. It serves as both a research center and public venue, celebrating the legacy and future of German and international cinema.

The Filmmuseum Potsdam is located on Breite Straße 1A in the historic center of Potsdam, directly beside the Brandenburg State Parliament in the reconstructed City Palace and close to the Alter Markt. Housed in the former royal stables built in 1685 as part of the electoral orangery, it is Germany’s oldest film museum and part of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. The museum traces over a century of filmmaking history through its permanent exhibition “Dream Factory – 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg,” showcasing props, costumes, and interactive installations from the world-famous Babelsberg Studios. Its in-house cinema, one of the oldest public film venues in the country, hosts screenings with live musical accompaniment. The museum is surrounded by key landmarks including the Museum Barberini, St. Nicholas’ Church, the Old Market Square, and scenic views along the Havel River. Potsdam’s main station is within walking distance, allowing easy access to nearby attractions such as Sanssouci Park and Filmpark Babelsberg.​
