Built between 1833 and 1849 as the summer residence of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia—later Emperor Wilhelm I—and his wife Augusta, the palace was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and later expanded by Ludwig Persius and Johann Heinrich Strack. Inspired by English Tudor architecture, its crenellated towers, pointed arches, and decorative brickwork evoke medieval charm while embracing 19th-century innovation. The interiors once hosted imperial gatherings and political milestones, including the appointment of Otto von Bismarck as Prime Minister in 1862. Set within Babelsberg Park, the palace offers sweeping views of the Glienicke Bridge and Havel River, surrounded by landscaped terraces and fountains. Though currently undergoing restoration, Schloss Babelsberg remains a symbol of Prussian identity and European architectural dialogue, drawing visitors with its historical depth and scenic elegance.

The palace is surrounded by a picturesque English landscape garden designed by Peter Joseph Lenné and Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau. Nearby attractions include the Flatowturm (Flatow Tower) within the park, the Glienicke Bridge offering scenic river views, and the palace grounds of Glienicke Park across the water.
