Schloss Sacrow in Potsdam is a serene waterside palace that blends neoclassical elegance with a poignant Cold War legacy. Built in 1773 for Privy Councillor Johann Ludwig von Hordt, this modest yet refined residence sits on the banks of the Havel River, surrounded by the lush Sacrow Park. The palace was later acquired by King Frederick William IV, who commissioned Peter Joseph Lenné to redesign the landscape and Karl Friedrich Schinkel to build the nearby Church of the Redeemer. The ensemble became a royal retreat, prized for its harmony between architecture and nature. During the Cold War, Schloss Sacrow fell into disrepair as it lay within the restricted border zone of the Berlin Wall. Since reunification, it has been carefully restored and now forms part of the UNESCO-listed Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin. Today, Schloss Sacrow offers visitors a tranquil escape with views across the water to Glienicke and Babelsberg, embodying both historical depth and natural beauty.

Schloss Sacrow is located in the Sacrow district of Potsdam, situated on the banks of the Havel River at Krampnitzer Straße 33. This elegant palace was acquired by King Frederick William IV in 1840, who had the estate transformed with gardens designed by Peter Joseph Lenné and the nearby Church of the Savior (Heilandskirche) built in an Italian style by architect Ludwig Persius. The estate offers picturesque parklands and waterfront views, contributing to the scenic connection between Sacrow and nearby estates like Glienicke Park and the New Garden. The area around Schloss Sacrow is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin," reflecting its historical and cultural significance. Visitors to Sacrow can enjoy serene walking paths, views of the Havel River, and the surrounding landscaped gardens, making it a tranquil cultural retreat close to the city.
