Today, it offers over 1,000 plant species and 250 iris varieties, arranged in vibrant seasonal displays. Sculptures from the DDR era dot the landscape, while the open-air stage, playground, and island café make it a favorite for families and cultural events. Originally a sandbar separating the Old and New Channels, the island was named after a 19th-century excursion restaurant and has since become a symbol of community and renewal. Accessible via Lange Brücke, Freundschaftsinsel invites visitors to stroll shaded paths, admire the Staudengarten, and enjoy panoramic views of Potsdam’s skyline.
