Nauen Gate
Nauen Gate (Nauener Tor) in Potsdam is one of the city’s three preserved historic gates and a landmark of early neo-Gothic architecture on the European continent. Completed in 1755, the gate was designed by Johann Gottfried Büring based on a sketch by Frederick the Great. Its pointed arches, battlements, and twin towers evoke medieval fortifications, though the structure was built purely for aesthetic and symbolic purposes. The gate once formed part of the city wall, connecting to the Jägertor and Brandenburg Gate, but the wall was dismantled in the 19th century.
