Open Air Kinosommer am Waschhaus is Potsdam’s beloved summer film festival, offering open-air cinema under the stars at Schiffbauergasse. Since the early 1990s, this seasonal event has transformed the forecourt of the Waschhaus cultural centre into a vibrant outdoor movie venue. In collaboration with Thalia Programmkino Babelsberg, the festival presents a curated selection of recent releases, documentaries, music films, and cult classics. Screenings take place from early July to late August, with guests lounging in deck chairs beside the Havel River, enjoying snacks, drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere. The program often includes live concerts, director talks, and themed parties, creating a festive blend of cinema and community. To respect the surrounding area, some films are shown with wireless headphones, adding a unique twist to the experience. Kinosommer’s scenic location and diverse programming make it a highlight of Potsdam’s cultural calendar, drawing cinephiles and casual visitors alike for unforgettable summer nights.

The Open Air Kinosommer am Waschhaus takes place at the Waschhaus Potsdam, located on Schiffbauergasse 6 within the creative quarter along the banks of the Tiefer See. Set in a historic former laundry complex, the venue transforms its courtyard and waterfront area each summer into an atmospheric open-air cinema under the stars. Surrounded by Potsdam’s main cultural sites, it stands beside the Hans Otto Theater, fabrik Potsdam, Museum Fluxus+, and the Theaterschiff, which all contribute to the area’s dynamic artistic flair. Nearby, visitors can enjoy the promenade, lakeside cafés, and boat moorings, while the Dutch Quarter, Old Market Square, and Museum Barberini are within walking distance. The venue is easily accessible by tram, bus, or bicycle from central Potsdam.​
