Charlottenhof Palace in Potsdam is a neoclassical gem nestled within Sanssouci Park, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel between 1826 and 1829 as a summer residence for Crown Prince Frederick William IV and his wife Elisabeth. Built on the foundations of a former manor house, the palace reflects the elegance of an Italian Renaissance villa, with its white façade, columned portico, and harmonious proportions. The name “Charlottenhof” honors Maria Charlotte von Gentzkow, a previous owner of the estate. Inside, the rooms retain their original furnishings, including the famous “tent room” inspired by Roman military tents, showcasing the prince’s romantic sensibilities. The surrounding English-style gardens, designed by Peter Joseph Lenné, complement the architecture with sweeping lawns and classical sculptures. As part of the UNESCO-listed Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin, Charlottenhof Palace offers visitors a serene retreat and a glimpse into Prussian royal life. It remains one of Schinkel’s most refined works and a highlight of Potsdam’s cultural heritage.

Charlottenhof Palace is located in the Brandenburger Vorstadt district of Potsdam, nestled within the expansive Sanssouci Park. It sits southwest of the Sanssouci Palace, close to the New Palace and the Roman Baths, forming part of the famed Berlin-Potsdam palaces and parks system protected by UNESCO. The palace was the summer residence of Crown Prince Frederick William (later King Frederick William IV) and is known for its classicist architecture designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Nearby, visitors can explore the beautifully landscaped gardens by Peter Joseph Lenné, the Marble Palace, and other historic buildings. The area is accessible via the Potsdam-Park Sanssouci and Potsdam-Charlottenhof railway stations, with several tram lines connecting to central Potsdam.​
