The Botanischer Garten Potsdam is a vibrant center of plant diversity and ecological education, nestled beside Sanssouci Park. Established in 1950 on the grounds of the former terraced gardens of the Sanssouci Court, the Botanical Garden is operated by the University of Potsdam and spans over 8.5 hectares, with 5 hectares open to the public. It houses more than 10,000 plant species from tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions, including orchids, palms, ferns, and aquatic plants. The garden features extensive greenhouses, such as the Epiphytenhaus, where visitors can experience tropical humidity and explore exotic flora. The Botanischer Garten Potsdam (Botanical Garden Potsdam) is located at Maulbeerallee 2a, on the western edge of Potsdam city, adjacent to the University of Potsdam’s main campus near Sanssouci Park. Founded in 1950, the garden features over 9,000 plant species, including themed outdoor sections such as alpine gardens, medicinal plants, and regional flora, as well as extensive greenhouses with tropical and subtropical collections. The botanical garden is just steps from the historic Sanssouci Palace, allowing visitors to easily combine an exploration of exotic plants with the Baroque beauty of the park’s palaces and gardens. Nearby, the New Palace (Neues Palais), the University of Potsdam campus buildings, and the lush woodland trails of Wildpark Potsdam provide further points of interest in a setting rich with culture and natural variety.
