The Nowaweser Weberstube in Potsdam is a small but evocative museum dedicated to the history of the Bohemian weavers who settled in Nowawes, now part of Babelsberg, in the 18th century. Located in a restored half-timbered house built in 1752 by order of Frederick the Great, the museum preserves one of the few original weaver homes from the founding period of the colony. Inside, two intimate rooms display tools, textiles, and domestic furnishings that reflect the daily life and craftsmanship of the Bohemian Protestant refugees who brought their weaving traditions to Prussia. The museum also explores the evolution of Nowawes and Neuendorf from modest villages into a major industrial center in the Teltow region. Adjacent to the museum is the Nowaweser Museumsgarten, where traditional dye, medicinal, and food plants are cultivated, echoing the self-sufficient lifestyle of the early settlers. Operated by the Förderkreis Böhmisches Dorf Nowawes und Neuendorf e.V., the Weberstube offers guided tours, educational programs, and seasonal events that celebrate local heritage and community memory.

The Nowaweser Weberstube is located at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 23 in the Babelsberg district of Potsdam. Housed in one of the few surviving weavers’ houses from the mid-18th century, the building was originally constructed in 1752 by order of Frederick the Great. Today it serves as a small local museum dedicated to the lives of the weavers and spinners who founded the historic Nowawes colony, displaying period furnishings, tools, and an original loom. The museum also features the Nowaweser Museum Garden nearby on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 113, planted with herbs, dyeing plants, and vegetables typical of the 18th century. The Weberstube stands in the heart of Babelsberg, close to Sankt-Nikolai-Kirche Babelsberg, the Babelsberg Park, and the Filmpark Babelsberg. The surrounding area blends industrial heritage, historic housing, and cultural venues, reflecting the district’s transformation from a modest weaving colony to a lively urban neighborhood.​
