The Pheasantry (Fasanerie) in Potsdam is a charming neoclassical pavilion nestled within the western grounds of Sanssouci Park, originally built in 1764–65 as a royal aviary for exotic birds. Commissioned by Frederick the Great and designed by Carl von Gontard, the structure once housed pheasants, peacocks, and other ornamental birds, reflecting the monarch’s fascination with nature and aesthetics. The building features a symmetrical façade with arched windows and a central pediment, harmonizing with the surrounding landscape. Though modest in scale, the Pheasantry exemplifies the integration of architecture and garden design that defines Potsdam’s royal parks. Over time, the aviary function faded, and the building was repurposed for various uses, including as a gardener’s residence. Today, it stands as a picturesque relic of 18th-century court life, often admired by visitors strolling between Charlottenhof Palace and the Roman Baths. While not open to the public, the Pheasantry remains a photogenic highlight of the UNESCO-listed cultural landscape.

The Pheasantry (Fasanerie) is located within Charlottenhof Park in Potsdam, near the Charlottenhof Palace in the Brandenburger Vorstadt district. This Italian-style building was originally the royal pheasant breeding ground and is set amid grain fields, pastures, and ponds designed for pheasant rearing. Built in the 1840s under the direction of architect Ludwig Persius and landscape designer Peter Joseph Lenné, the Pheasantry features a tower and loggia, reflecting classical architectural elements. It lies within the scenic Charlottenhof Park, close to Sanssouci Park, the New Palace, and the Orangery Palace, making it part of the historic palace and garden ensemble that forms the Potsdam UNESCO World Heritage site. The area offers pleasant walking paths and green spaces, accessible from nearby railway stations including Potsdam Park Sanssouci and Potsdam Schloss Charlottenhof.​
